Huli ka lau o ka 'ama'u i uka, nui ka wai o kahawai • When the leaves of the 'ama'u turn towards the upland, it is a sign of a flood
When the winds blow the leaves of the 'ama'u fern so that they bend toward the mountains it is also blowing clouds inland, which will produce rain.
The 'Ama'u, a tree fern is one of the first species to colonize the barren lava flows that make Hawai'i Island so famous. This is an incredibly harsh landscape and many challenges must be overcome in order for it to persist. This does not seem to be an issue for the 'Ama'u. It is just as much at home in these water-starved habitats as it is in wetter forests. It is easily the most successful species of it's kind, having colonized every island in Hawai'i. Our tees feature our original Kalo design printed on the front and back of the tee. They are 100% pre-shrunk jersey cotton knit and are available in size Small thru 4XL. # AMTB
