    Ulu Racerback Tank Tops

Ulu or breadfruit, was one of the few plants the early Polynesians brought with them to Hawai'i. It provided everything the Hawaiian's needed to survive. Ulu had many uses, the wood was utilized for poi boards, the young buds were used as medicine and the sticky sap was used to capture the colorful native birds for their feathers, and of course Ulu was also a main food source. There is a legend about the Hawaiian war god Kuka'ilimoku. During a time of famine, he buried himself in the ground to emerge again as an ulu tree. "Eat some, feed our kids," he told his wife and thus saved his family from starvation. It's immense usefulness to Hawaiians have made it an immortal symbol of Hawai'i.

    Manu 'Ō'ō Racerback Tank Tops

The Manu 'Ō'ō was glossy black with yellowish tufts and plumes. It was valued by Hawaiians for its golden feathers, which were used to make feather capes, helmets and other ornaments for the ali'i. Bird catchers would smear sticky sap on the branches of the Ohi'a and when an 'Ō'ō landed on the sap it would be held fast in the sticky trap. The feathers were then carefully plucked, only removing a few at a time and then the bird was released unharmed. The Manu 'Ō'ō is now believed to be extinct, with it's last known sighting in 1934 on the slopes of Mauna Loa.
