    Manu 'Ō'ō Dolman Tops

The Manu 'Ō'ō was glossy black with yellowish tufts and plumes. It was valued by Hawaiians for its golden feathers, which were used to make feather capes, helmets and other ornaments for the ali'i. Bird catchers would smear sticky sap on the branches of the Ohi'a and when an 'Ō'ō landed on the sap it would be held fast in the sticky trap. The feathers were then carefully plucked, only removing a few at a time and then the bird was released unharmed. The Manu 'Ō'ō is now believed to be extinct, with it's last known sighting in 1934 on the slopes of Mauna Loa.

    KaloTriblend Dolman Tops

The life of Kanaka Maoli is tied closely with kalo. Kalo is believed to have the greatest life force of all foods. According to the Kumulipo, the creation chant, kalo grew from the first-born son of Wakea (sky father) and Papa (earth mother), through Wakea's relationship with his daughter, Ho`ohokulani. Together they birthed a son named Haloanakalaukapalili, who was stillborn. He was buried and out of his body grew the kalo plant. They then had another son, healthy and strong, and he was also called Haloa, the namesake of his older brother. Haloa tended to his older brother, and the kalo grew abundantly. By Haloa's hand, the land became fertile. He was the first Hawaiian of whom all Hawaiian people are descended from.

The He'e or octopus is believed to be one of the kinolau of the Hawaiian god of the sea, Kanaloa, He is probably the most intelligent of all invertabrates and have been shown to have the ability to learn from experience. They feed on crustaceans (shrimp, lobsters, crabs) and mollusks (primarily cowry snails). Their dens are often recognized by the pile of broken crab and snail shells found just outside the entrance. Early Hawaiians also relished he'e and captured them either by spearing or by using lures made of a large cowry shell lashed onto a hook called Lu He'e, attracting the he'e with the movements of the lure.
